Alentejo in the spotlight of international media

The Alentejo has been “visited” by international media who cannot help but highlight the many facets of the Portuguese region, suggesting that is worth a trip at any time of the year.

The Spanish press, in El Pais, has no doubt that Monsaraz, Vila Viçosa, Elvas and Serpa are part of the 15 Portuguese jewels that must be visited in our country. The same newspaper also mentions Comporta in another article, a white-sand paradise only an hour from Lisbon. As for El Mundo the invitation is to explore Vila Viçosa, known for its marble and its royal history, and stay at Alentejo Marmòris Hotel & Spa. La Vanguardia suggests 10 things you must see and do while in the Alentejo, talking about the beautiful landscapes, medieval castles, extensive vineyards and, of course, an excellent gastronomy. The article says you cannot be in the Alentejo without knowing Mértola, in the heart of the Guadiana; eating the Serpa cheese; visiting the medieval enchantment of Évora; going to the potteries of São Pedro do Corval to take a souvenir with you; exploring the border town Elvas; climbing up to the Roman museum that is Marvão; getting to know Castelo de Vide; making the wine tour till Estremoz; watch how the Arraiolos tapestries are made; and end up surfing in Zambujeira do Mar.

Condé Nast Traveller has also made a list of the best places to stay in Portugal and, among some of their favourite are Campo de Arroz in Comporta; Dá Licença in Estremoz; Quinta da Comporta; L’And Vineyards Resort in Montemor-o-Novo and Casa Pego, in Comporta. Top quality places to book in your next trip to the Alentejo. In another article, CN Traveller also points out the Alentejo as one of the best wine regions to visit in 2020.

The New York Times talks about a Portugal of pristine beaches and tiny villages referring to the Alentejo region with the “last unspoiled stretch of Atlantic coast in all of southern Europe, with 40 miles of nearly untouched beaches”.

In France, GEO highlights some interesting spots such as Elvas citadel, Torre de Palma hotel close to Monforte or the village of Monsaraz, one of the jewels in the region of Alentejo, perfect to watch the stars and to try the most unforgettable wines. As for Le Figaro, it tells you some reasons why you sould visit Melides, a small Alentejo village, only twenty minutes from Comporta, with beautiful accessible beaches and art centre you can’t miss.

The German press too is convinced that Alentejo is a must and mentions Évora, the city of students, in GEO. Westdeutsche Zeitung takes you on a journey to Sines and the German Cosmopolitan point to Marvão as one of 10 European spots you have to visit.

The United Kingdom doesn’t escape the magic of Alentejo and The Telegraph describes it as the overlooked region of Portugal with epic landscapes and hearty food, but now crowds, making a tour around Évora, Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, Marvão Castle, Coudelaria de Alter.
